EAA Chapter 27 was officially chartered in February, 1956 and was the first Chapter in New England. Our February 19, 2006 meeting was dedicated to celebrating 50 years of fun, comaraderie and dedication to aviation. President Jim Simmons gave a presentation on the history of EAA, the history of the Chapter and the lives of six of our members who have been flying for over 60 years. Stan Solecki, the remaining founding member of the Chapter was singled out for special recognition. Nearly sixty people attended including the intrepid Ken Winiarski who drove six hours, each way, from Brookton, Maine just to be there. Interestingly, of the first 27 EAA Chapters, all but Chapter 3 are still around.
