Home > Our Planes > Mark Scott: 1950 C170A, Bearhawk

My Bearhawk Project. It will be powered by an IO-540, 260 hp. Eventually it will go on amphibious floats. I used to own a Cessna 170A but reluctantly sold it due to time and money constraints.

A wonderful plane for the low time tail dragger pilot.

Arrival day.
June 2006

Here's what's under the wrapping
Wings were completed as much as possible and stored early 2007. Final controls and closing will be done at final assembly.
Starting work on the wings
My kids and I made a PVC pipe outline of the fuselage. We were able to verify the fuselage will not hit the top of the basement doorway as it goes through.
Test the fit
This PVC frame shows us the fuselage will fit in the basement.
Making sure it'll go in
It is on its main wheels and I have some of the controls in. It clears the floor joists by only 6 inches. Either this plane was designed for this basement or vice versa.
On its wheels
My kids got to sit in it before I did.
Airplane noises!
I picked up my engine September 2007, an IO-540 with 1955 hrs on it. It is fresh off a plane so it is in very good condition. It will get a full overhaul sometime in 2008. I borrowed the hoist and truck from different people. Sure is nice to have friends, with stuff!
Engine pick up
My kids and niece had fun helping unload.
